Kansas City Psychotherapy offers Counselor Supervision, Individual Counseling, Psychiatric, and Psychological Services, as well as Marriage Counseling, Couples Therapy, Adolescent Therapy and Online Video Counseling in the Kansas City area.  We are conveniently located near Leawood, Prairie Village, Waldo, and Overland Park.


































Our Clinicians

Joy Whitman, PhD, LCPC, LPC is licensed in both Missouri and in Illinois and has been working with clients since 1991. She is the clinical director of Kansas City Psychotherapy. Over the course of her training and experience, her style of therapy has evolved to an integrative approach combining humanistic, feminist, and psychodynamic theories of personality development. She has expertise in: eating disorders, trauma, anxiety, depression, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender clients. Her practice is focused on working with adults and couples.

Marty Biggar, MS, PLPC is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Kansas and a Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Missouri.  She has a master’s of science degree in counseling psychology and a graduate certification in child and adolescent psychology from Avila University and a bachelor’s of science in developmental psychology with a minor in sociology from the University of Kansas.  She has training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.

Jason Blankenship, MS, PLPC is a Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC) in the state of Missouri under the supervision of Joy Whitman, PhD. He holds two graduate degrees from the University of Arkansas, a Master’s of Arts in English literature and a Master’s of Science in Mental Health Counseling. Jason specializes in grief, loss, and bereavement; childhood abuse as it manifests in adulthood; and the process of forgiveness.

George Wine-Chase, MS, LPC is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Masters in Mental Health Counseling and a Masters in Divinity. In addition to psychotherapy he also provides professional coaching, as a certified coach with the International Coach Foundation (ICF).

Jeff Peterson, PhD, LCPC, LPC, NCC, PCC has relocated to Colorado Springs and is no longer with Kansas City Psychotherapy.  He continues to see some Kansas and Missouri clients virtually. You can reach him at jeffpetersonphd.com. Jeff is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Counselor Educator and Supervisor (ACES), National Board Certified Counselor (NCC), and National Professional Certified Coach (PCC) in the states of Colorado, Utah, Kansas, and Missouri. He focuses on managing stress and recovering from previous trauma, couples communication and relationship enhancement, managing general and social anxiety, coaching and improving performance, dealing with shame and addiction, and sexual or gender identity issues.

Scott is committed to serving the Kansas City area, as he has experience working in numerous local settings such as community counseling, doctoral education, college athletics, and private practice. Scott uses a cognitive-behavioral approach that incorporates family systems theory and existential components. His major areas of focus include stress reduction, self-esteem, marriage counseling, and career/sports performance.
